So, you’ve received your APO haul… now what?
Opening a parcel of new perfume oils is always exciting — but with so many options, how do you make the most of your testing? Here are a few tips:
Start slow.
Don’t test too many oils at once — your nose will quickly become overwhelmed. Try 2–3 at a time.
Use your skin, not just the bottle.
Oils often smell different in the bottle compared to on your skin. Apply a tiny dab to your wrist or inner arm.
Give it time.
Perfume oils evolve. The first few minutes reveal the “top notes,” but the real beauty develops after 30–60 minutes as the fragrance warms with your skin. Some oils can still be detected the next day!
Notice the journey.
Pay attention to how the scent moves from bright and fresh (top notes), to rich and floral/woody (heart notes), to deep and long-lasting (base notes). Each stage tells part of the fragrance story.
Make notes.
Jot down which ones you love immediately, which ones grow on you, and which combinations you’d like to layer.
